*Note: The amino acid residue identity between mJE and hMCP-1 is 55%, between mJE and hMCP-4 is 57% when the 49 aa O-glycosylated C-terminal extension is not taken into consideration. Mouse MCP-5 has a 66% aa identity with hMCP-1. Thus, the presumed relationship between mJE and hMCP-1 has been called into question. At this time, it might be best to assume that mJE is the functional ortholog of hMCP-1. Both mJE and hMCP-1 have similar activities on similar cell types. (Gu, L. et al. 1999, Chem. Immunol. 72:7.)
