ECE-1: Products

ECE-1 and -2 are zinc proteases of the neprilysin (NEP) family, which also includes PEX, XCE, DINE, Kell, and several NEP-like proteins. ECE-1 and -2 are type II transmembrane proteins with a short cytoplasmic tail and a large ectodomain. Several variants with alternatively spliced cytoplasmic tails exist that differ in their tissue distribution. ECE-1 and -2 cleave a variety of bioactive peptides including big endothelin-1.
