Detection of Human, Mouse, and Rat Synuclein‑ alpha by Western Blot. Western blot shows lysates of human brain (cerebellum) tissue, mouse brain (cerebellum) tissue, and rat brain (cerebellum) tissue. PVDF membrane was probed with 2 µg/mL of Mouse Anti-Human/Mouse/Rat Synuclein‑ alpha Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB13381) followed by HRP-conjugated Anti-Mouse IgG Secondary Antibody (Catalog # HAF018). A specific band was detected for Synuclein‑ alpha at approximately 17 kDa (as indicated). This experiment was conducted under reducing conditions and using Immunoblot Buffer Group 1.
Synuclein‑ alpha in Human Brain. Synuclein‑ alpha was detected in immersion fixed paraffin-embedded sections of human brain (substantia nigra) using Mouse Anti-Human/Mouse/Rat Synuclein‑ alpha Monoclonal Antibody (Catalog # MAB13381) at 15 µg/mL overnight at 4 °C. Tissue was stained using the Anti-Mouse HRP-DAB Cell & Tissue Staining Kit (brown; Catalog # CTS002) and counterstained with hematoxylin (blue). Specific staining was localized to synaptic varicosities. View our protocol for Chromogenic IHC Staining of Paraffin-embedded Tissue Sections.

Synuclein-alpha (SNCA) is a cytoplasmic protein that is predominantly expressed in the central nervous system. It is a minor protein found in amyloid deposition that is a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease. Defects in SNCA are associated with familial Parkinson’s disease.
