Q: Is mouse CNTF species specific?
A: With regard to our mouse CNTF protein NBP2-35168, this particular protein is made to the mouse CNTF sequence. The functionality of this protein has only been investigated as a mouse protein. We have not yet tested this protein with use in rat samples or with rat specific antibodies. In general, the rat and mouse sequences for CNTF are very similar. Given an antibody made specifically to the mouse sequence, it is likely to cross react with the rat protein. However, with a protein product, there can be marked differences in the folding and activity of the protein that would prohibit it from being used in a species other than intended.
