Perhaps the most attention has focused on cancer T cell therapies where the patient's own cells are used in the treatment. A common workflow includes enrichment of the cells of interest followed by genetic modifications and ex vivo expansion of the cells. The cells, now reprogrammed for enhanced anti-tumor activity, are then re-introduced into the patient. Some cell types used for immune cell therapy include tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), transgenic TCR T cells, and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells.
