Background: PDGF-AA

PDGF-AA is expressed by monocytes, macrophages, fibroblasts, and vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells. It forms disulfide-linked homodimers as well as heterodimers with PDGF-B. PDGF-AA acts as a chemoattractant for multiple cell types. It signals through PDGF R alpha which is also the functional receptor for PDGF-AB, -BB, and -CC. PDGF-AA activity is modulated by the association of FGF R1 or Neuropilin-1 with PDGF R alpha.
