Background: VprBP

VPRBP binds and bridges the CUL4 and DDB1 ubiquitin ligase complex, binding the DNA damage binding protein DDB1 and CUL4. VPRBP is the acronym for the human immunodeficiency virus type-1 Vpr binding protein (1-3). CUL4 is a cullin family memember. Cullins are ubiquitin ligases that are cable of ubiquitinylating a wide range of protein substrates (4). All ubiquitin ligases are important as the modification of proteins by ubiquitin addition modifies or activates functionality (4, 5). VPRBP is critical for normal cell cycle progression through S phase and allows proper cell proliferation and development. VPRBP appears to serve in an epigenetic role through regulation of histone methylation (5). VPRBP antibody provides a reagent for exploration of ubiqitin ligase activities in cell cycle and other cell pathways responsible for normal cell growth and function.
