β-Glucan blocker is added to samples suspected of containing β-1,3-glucan contaminants to prevent false positives in Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) endotoxin assays. β-1,3-glucan contamination may originate from yeast, fungal components, or cellulosic materials in biological or pharmaceutical samples. At sufficient levels, β-1,3-glucans can activate the LAL cascade and mimic an endotoxin response, compromising assay accuracy. The β-Glucan blocker inhibits this non-endotoxin activation, ensuring the assay signal reflects true endotoxin levels.
