Background: HIST1H2AK

Histones are nuclear proteins that are responsible for the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber as they play a critical role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, DNA replication, and chromosomal stability. HIST1H2AK gene is an intronless and found on chromosome 6p22-p21.3. It encodes for a 130 amino acid long, 14 kDA member of the histone H2A family that lack polyA tails but obtain palindromic termination elements. HIST1H2AK has been researched regarding riddle syndrome, lupus, and immunodeficiency. It is involved in histone modification and signal transduction activin A signaling regulation through interacting with various genes IL33, RYBP, UBC, YWHAZ, and YWHAQ.
