Background: HOXD8

Homeobox protein HOXD8 belongs to the Antp homeobox family and contains one homeobox DNA-binding domain. It is a sequence-specific transcription factor which is part of a developmental regulatory system that provides cells with specific positional identities on the anterior-posterior axis. HOXD8 has redundant functions at upper thoracic and sacral levels, including positioning of the hind limbs. It is reported that HOXD8 may have a role in scarless wound repair.
