Background: Caspase-10
Caspase-10 (Cysteine-aspartic acid protease 10, FLICE 2 and Mch4) is a member of the peptidase C14A family of enzymes. It is widely expressed, being found in blood and epithelial cells. Caspase-10 appears to be an initiator caspase that acts on Pro-Caspases-3, -4, -6, -7, and -9. Human Pro-Caspase-10a is a 59 kDa, 521 amino acid (aa) protein. It contains two N-terminal death domains. Cleavage generates p43 plus the small mature p12 subunit. Cleavage of p43 generates a prodomain p25 and large mature p17 subunit. P17 and p12 noncovalently associate to form a 29 kDa mature heterodimer. There are at least four isoform variants. There is no apparent mouse Casp-10 gene.
