Background: HepaCAM
Hepatocyte Cell Adhesion Molecule (HepaCAM) is a 416 amino acid type I transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the immunoglobin superfamily. HepaCAM forms cis-homodimers on the cell surface and may be involved in modulating cell-matrix interactions, likely by promoting cell spreading and motility. Human HepaCAM runs as a 48-72 kDa protein depending on glycosylation. It contains a 206 amino acid extracellular domain and a 152 amino acid cytoplasmic domain. Over the extracellular region used as immunogen (aa 34-242), human HepaCAM is 99% and 98% identical to mouse and canine HepaCAM proteins, respectively.
