It functions in the uptake of dietary copper. It may play a role in infection by chimpanzee endogenous retrovirus 2, Wilson disease, Menkes disease, ovarian carcinoma, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, ethylmalonic encephalopathy, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, cleft lip, squamous cell carcinoma and T-cell deficiency.
