Background: VAV2

VAV2 is a member of the VAV protein family of GEFs, or guanine nucleotide exchange factors, and the RHO/RAC family of GTPases. VAV2 therefore acts via phosphorylation dependent pathways as part of the multi-unit recognition receptor signaling complex. VAV2, along with VAV3, is more widely distributed in many cell types while VAV1 appears to be relatively concentrated in lymphoid cells (1, 2). VAV2 as well as VAV1 are intrinsically involved in BCR and CD19 coligation in Bcell activation and development (3) but VAV2 appears to not have as much importance as does VAV1 in Tcell activation and development (3, 4). An antibody to VAV2 provides a valuable tool to identify VAV2 and further characterize its role in the signaling pathways of lymphoid subsets and non-lymphoid cell populations.
