Coatomer proteins are involved in regulating transport between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi complex and in intra-Golgi transport. There exist two Coatomer-Protein mechanisms (COPI and COPII) and although they have mechanistic parallels, they are molecularly distinct.
