DAF-3 (abnormal DAuer Formation-3) is an 892 amino acid protein found in C. elegans. It is closely related to SMAD4 in vertebrates. It is required for formation of the alternative dauer larval stage as well as for regulation of pharyngeal gene expression during non-dauer development.
