Neurotensin (NT) is a brain and gastrointestinal peptide that acts on three subtypes of neurotensin receptors: the G-protein-coupled receptors NTS₁ (high affinity) and NTS₂ (low affinity) and the single transmembrane receptor NTS₃ (Sortilin 1). These receptors have many central and peripheral actions including modulation of dopaminergic transmission in nigro-striatal and mesocorticolimbic pathways, modulation of the digestive tract and hypothermic and analgesic effects.
