NPY Receptor Agonists

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) receptors are a family of G_i/o-protein-coupled receptors that are currently divided into four subtypes: Y₁, Y₂, Y₄ and Y₅. NPY receptors mediate a diverse range of biological actions including stimulation of food intake, anxiolysis, modulation of circadian rhythm, pain transmission and control of pituitary hormone release.

All four NPY receptor subtypes are found at high concentrations in the brain and colon and are also found in a wide variety of peripheral tissues at lower levels. The human genes encoding Y₁, Y₂ and Y₅ receptors are located on chromosome 4q31.3-q32 and the human gene encoding Y₄ is located on chromosome 10q11.2.
