Phosphoinositide-specific Phospholipase C (PLC) is an essential signal transduction molecule that catalyzes the hydrolysis of the cellular membrane phospholipid Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP₂) to generate the second messengers Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP₃) and Diacylglycerol (DAG).
