Human IL-38/IL-1F10 is a secreted cytokine belonging to the IL-1 family. It is synthesized as a 152 amino acid mature protein that lacks an identifiable signal sequence. It binds to soluble IL-1 R1. Human IL-38 shares 82% aa sequence identity with mouse IL-1F10. Human IL-38 also shares 39% and 27% aa sequence identity with IL-1ra and IL-1 beta, respectively.

Detects human IL‑38/IL‑1F10 in direct ELISAs and Western blots. In direct ELISAs and Western blots, approximately 50% cross-reactivity with recombinant mouse IL-1F10 is observed and no cross-reactivity with recombinant human (rh) IL-1 alpha /IL-1F1 rhIL-1 beta /IL-1F2, rhIL-1ra/IL-1F3, rhIL-18/IL-1F4, rhIL-36Ra/IL‑1F5, rhIL-36 alpha /IL‑1F6, rhIL‑1F7/FIL1 zeta, rhIL-36 beta /IL-1F8, or rhIL-36 gamma /IL‑1F9 is observed.
