Background: p70 S6 Kinase beta

This gene encodes a member of the RSK (ribosomal S6 kinase) family of serine/threonine kinases. This kinase contains 2 nonidentical kinase catalytic domains and phosphorylates the S6 ribosomal protein and eucaryotic translation initiation factor 4B (eIF4B). Phosphorylation of S6 leads to an increase in protein synthesis and cell proliferation.

  • Q: I wondered if your S6k2 antibody cross reacted with S6K1 or is it specific to S6K2 NB100-1545

    A: There is no mention of specifically crossreacting with any other protein but the epitope recognized by this antibody is found between aa430 and 482 of the human Ribosomal protein S6 kinase. Our lab said that there is some similarity between S6K1 and S6K2 in the sequences of the immunizing peptide. This antibody preferentially binds to S6K2 (as seen in data sheet) and it is possible under certain conditions that it would cross-react with S6K1.
