Carrier Free

What does CF mean?

CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.

What formulation is right for me?

In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Background: UCH-L5/UCH37

Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolases are a family of cysteine hydrolases (known as the peptidase C12 family) that catalyze the hydrolysis of amides, esters and thioesters from the c-terminal end of Ubiquitin. Human UCH-L5 (also known as UCH37) is 329 amino acids long with a predicted weight of 38 kDa, and shares 97% sequence identity with its mouse ortholog. UCH-L5 is found associated with the 19S regulatory complex of the 26S proteasome, where it functions to cleave K48-linked poly-Ubiquitin chains from Ubiquitinated substrates. UCH-L5 is also found as a component of the INO80 complex, where its activity is regulated by a mechanism involving ADRM1.
