Background: c-Myc
A basic Helix-Loop-Helix, Leucine Zipper domain (bHLH/LZ), designated Max, specifically associates with c-Myc, N-Myc and L-Myc proteins. The Myc-Max complex binds to DNA in a sequence-specific manner under conditions where neither Max nor Myc exhibit appreciable binding. Max can also form heterodimers with other bHLH-Zip proteins, Mad and Mxi1. c-Myc plays a role in cell cycle progression, apoptosis, cellular transformation and angiogenesis (2). Mutations, overexpression, rearrangement and translocation of this gene have been associated with a variety of cancers including B-cell Lymphomas, acute myeloid leukemia, glioblastoma, stomach adenocarcinoma, and prostate adenocarcinoma (3).

FAQs for Recombinant Human c-Myc GST (N-Term) Protein
-
Q: Does the product have any other tags (e.g. 6xHIS) other than the GST-tag?
A: This protein only has an N-Terminal GST tag. There are no other epitope tags.
-
Q: The product is listed as "not active, and should not be used for experiments requiring activity". However, do you have any evidence that this protein retains the ability to interact with known protein partners (e.g. Max)?
A: This protein has only been tested as a positive control in Western blot and ELISA. It has not yet been tested for any possible interactions with other related proteins. A cell free wheat germ system is utelized for their protein expression. Due to this expression system, in our experience, the proteins do not always undergo the same folding and post-translational modifications they might undergo in an endogenous cell. This is why we do not recommend this protein for use in functional assays and do not guarantee them for this use.
-
Q: What is the concentration of the protein provided in the buffered solution? If it varies with Lot number, could you please give an indicative concentration, as no concentration information is available via your website and I'm unsure whether the stock concentration will be suitable for my assays. All I can see is that the quantity provided is 10ug.
A: The concentration ranges for this protein usually vary from 0.01-0.1mg/ml.
-
Q: What is the degree of purity for the 3 products H00004609-P01, H00004602-P01, and H00004609-Q01?Fragment-->
A: All of these proteins are produced in Host: Wheat Germ (in vitro), Preparation Method:in vitro wheat germ expression system, Purification:Glutathione Sepharose 4 Fast Flow.
