Product Summary for Cultrex Poly-L-Ornithine

Why Use Cultrex Poly-L-Ornithine?
Poly-L-Ornithine, a highly positively charged synthetic amino acid chain, is commonly used as a coating agent to promote cell adhesion in culture on tissue culture-treated plastic or glass surfaces. Moreover, Poly-L-Ornithine alone or in combination with Fibronectin or Laminin-I is frequently used to enhance attachment and differentiation of various types of neuronal and neural stem cells. This product is provided ready-to-use, as 0.01% solution in sterile water, and contains polymers in the 30,000 - 70,000 Da range.

Background: Basement Membrane Extracts

Basement membrane extract (BME) is a type of extracellular matrix (ECM) derived from Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm mouse sarcomas. BME is commonly used in cell culture and tissue engineering to provide a 2-D or 3-D scaffold for cells, allowing them to grow, differentiate, and interact in an environment that closely mimics the native ECM. This makes BME invaluable for modeling the behavior of cells in vivo.  All Cultrex BME formulations are rigorously tested to ensure performance, quality, and lot-to-lot consistency.
