Mood stabilizer; thought to act by reducing catecholamine neurotransmitter concentration, through an effect on the Na+/K+ ATPase pump. Effective in the treatment of bipolar disorder. Inhibits GSK-3 in vivo.Technical Data

Guinea pig ventricular cardiomyocytes were patched and stimulated at a 1 Hz frequency to record action potentials before and after Li2CO3 (10 and 30 µM). Li2CO3 significantly prolonged action potential duration at 20% and 90% repolarization levels.
