YM1, also known as Chitinase 3-like 3 and ECF-L, is a secreted lectin that binds saccharides, such as glucosamine, galactosamine, chitin, and heparin, with a free amino group. The mature protein is 377 amino acids in length with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 44.5 kDa. YM1/Chitinase 3-like 3 is primarily produced by macrophages and may play a role in inflammation and allergy. YM1/Chitinase 3-like 3 shares homology with other chitinase proteins, but lacks enzymatic activity.

The Quantikine Mouse CHI3L3 immunoassay is a 4.5 hour solid phase ELISA designed to measure CHI3L3 in cell culture supernates, cell lysates, serum, and plasma. It contains NS0-expressed recombinant mouse CHI3L3 and has been shown to accurately quantitate the recombinant factor. Results obtained using natural CHI3L3 showed linear curves that were parallel to the standard curves obtained using the Quantikine kit standards. These results indicate that this kit can be used to determine relative mass values for naturally occurring mouse CHI3L3.
