Mouse BLK (Bik-like Killer) is a 17-kDa pro-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family of proteins. BLK contains a conserved BH3 domain and is similar to other BH3-only proteins such as Hrk, Bid, and Bik, but lacks the conserved BH1, BH2, and BH4 domains of other Bcl-2 family members. BLK interacts with the anti-apoptotic proteins Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, and induces apoptosis through activation of the Cytochrome c/APAF-1/Caspase-9 pathway.
