Protein Arginine methyltransferases, or PRMTs, are a family of enyzmes that catalyze the transfer of methyl groups from S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to arginine residues on histones. PRMTs belong to the histone methyltransferase group of enzymes, which also includes lysine methyltransferases.
