Background: GFR alpha-4/GDNF R alpha-4

GFR alpha -4 is a member of a family of at least four cysteine-rich GPI-linked cell surface proteins that function as ligand binding subunits for the GDNF family (GDNF, neurturin, persephin and artemin). A functional receptor complex is achieved through association with the c-Ret receptor tyrosine kinase. GFR alpha -4 preferentially binds persephin.
