Background: EpCAM/TROP1

Epithelial Cellular Adhesion Molecule (EpCAM), also known as TROP‑1, is a calcium-dependent homophilic adhesion protein. It associates into tetramers and forms complexes in cis with Claudin-7, CD44v6, TSPAN8, CD9, Integrin alpha 3, and Annexin A1. During embryonic development, EpCAM is expressed in lung, kidney, liver, pancreas, skin, and germ cells. In the adult, it is expressed on basolateral cell membranes of simple, pseudo-stratified, and transitional epithelia. EpCAM is upregulated in proliferating epithelial tissues, during adult liver regeneration, and many carcinomas.

FAQs for MagCellect Plus Human EpCAM+ Cell Isolation Kit

Showing  1 - 2 of 2 FAQs Showing All
  • Q: The MagCellect Plus Human  EpCAM+ Cell Isolation kit, Catalog # MAGH121, lists Hank's BSS (HBSS) or equivalent is required. Which HBSS do you recommend?

A: We recommned using HBSS with Ca+ and Mg+ salts, and no phenol red, such as R&D Systems Catalog # B32450.

  • Q: When using MacCellect Cell Isolation kits (MAGM*** or MAGH***), why is it important to lyse red blood cells before starting the cell isolation protocol?

A: It is important to remove red blood cells before the isolation protocol using MagCellect isolation kits because not doing so can cause a poorer yield of selected cells. Red blood cells become sticky during the incubation protocols and may interfere with the interactions needed for removal of unwanted populations.
