Background: Contactin-1

Contactin-1 (also known as Contactin in human, F3 in rodent, and F11 in chicken), Contactin-2 (TAX-1 in human, TAG1 in rat, and Axonin-1 in chicken), Contactin-4 (BIG-1), Contactin-5 (NB-2), and Contactin-6 (NB-3) form the contactin subgroup of cell adhesion molecules within the immunoglobulin superfamily. Contactin-1 and -2 are differentially expressed in a number of neuronal tissues during development and interact with several ligands including Nr-CAM, L1, NCAM, neurocan, phosphacan, and tenascin.
