Background: Serpin F1/PEDF

Serpin F1, also known as pigment epithelium derived factor (PEDF), is a secreted glycoprotein that shows sequence and structural similarity with the serpin superfamily proteins, but lacks serine protease inhibitory activity. Serpin F1 has been shown to have cell-type specific functions including inhibition of retinal angiogenesis and neurotrophic activity in the retina and central nervous system.
