Background: TRIM

TRIM (TCR-Interactin molecule) stabilizes the TCR (T-cell antigen receptor)/CD3 complex at the surface of T-cells. Sequence analysis predicts that TRIM is a 186-amino acid type III transmembrane protein containing an 8-amino acid extracellular domain, which includes a cys residue, and a 19-amino acid transmembrane region that lacks charged residues. The intracellular portion possesses 4 potential phosphorylation sites and 8 tyrosine residues. It is strongly expressed in adult thymus, and to a lesser extent in spleen, lymph node and peripheral blood lymphocytes. Present in T-cells and NK cells, but not B-cells (at protein level). It can be found in the foetal thymus at weeks 17-24 of gestation but is undetectable in bone marrow and foetal liver.
