WB: Preliminary experiments gave an approx. 50-55 kDa band in human brain (cerebellum, cerebral cortex, frontal cortex), heart, skeletal muscle and testis lysates after 0.3 ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 179 kDa band according to NP_009099.1. The 50-55 kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide.

Background: ABCA8

The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene is a member of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intracellular membranes. ABC genes are divided into seven distinct subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White). This protein is a member of the ABC1 subfamily. Members of the ABC1 subfamily comprise the only major ABC subfamily found exclusively in multicellular eukaryotes. The function of this protein has not yet been determined.
