Background: CLEC4E

A member of the C-type lectin superfamily, CLEC4E, also known as Mincle, is a ~25kDa protein. CLEC4E is expressed and found on the surface of activated macrophages. CLEC4E has also been associated with expression on innate effector cells such as dendritic cells. It serves as a receptor for pathogenic fungi such as Malassezia which causes atopic dermatitis, tinea versicolor or acute sepsis reactions. CLEC4E also serves as a sensor of damaged cells. Shown to be associated with FcRfx chain, CLEC4E also may be associated with TLR since Mincle-/- mice have above background cytokine production. CLEC4E specific antibody enables more in-depth analysis of mechanism of action, signaling pathways and development of therapies and drugs which are Mincle (CLEC4E) associated. CLEC4E is an innate immune receptor, a PAMP sensor involved in inflammatory response activation pathways.
