Background: DSCAM

DSCAM is a member of the Ig superfamily that maps to a region in chromosome 21 associated with Down Syndrome mental retardation. It encodes a 230 kDa type I membrane protein with a large extracellular domain comprising ten C2-type Ig-like domains and six fibronectin type III repeats. Human DSCAM is expressed in axonal and dendritic processes of the central and peripheral nervous system. It is involved in hemophilia interactions and has been implicated in neurogenesis.
