Background: Eps8
Eps8 (EGF R pathway substrate 8) is a 97 kDa member of the Eps family of proteins. It is ubiquitously expressed and serves as a signaling molecule for multiple RTKs, including FGF R, EGF R and PDGF R. Upon activation, Eps8 promotes endocytosis through Rab5, and Rac activation via IRSp53, Abi-1 and Sos-1. Human Eps8 is 822 amino acids (aa) in length. It contains a PH-like domain (aa 62‑173), an EGF R binding region (aa 296‑362), an SH3 domain that mediates homodimerization (aa 535‑587) and a Sos-1 interaction site (aa 648‑821). There is one potential alternate start site at Met261, and a splice variant that shows a 15 aa substitution for aa 676‑822.
