SLC31A1/CTR1 (High affinity copper uptake protein 1) is a 190 amino acid cell membrane protein. SLC31A1 forms a homotrimer and is a high-affinity copper transporter. It functions in the uptake of dietary copper. It may play a role in infection by chimpanzee endogenous retrovirus 2, Wilson disease, Menkes disease, ovarian carcinoma, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, ethylmalonic encephalopathy, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, cleft lip, squamous cell carcinoma and T-cell deficiency.
