Background: KIR2.3

The KIR2.3 (KCNJ4) gene codes for protein that is 445 amino acid long inward rectifier potassium channel that regulates channel flow critical for electrical signaling of the nervous system, allowing for muscle excitability and neural firing. The KCNJ4 has a mass of approximately 49 kDA. Researchers are investigating the role of the KIR2.3 gene in meniere's disease, neuronitis, hyperglycemia, and noma. This gene has been shown to interact with other genes such as LIN7B, CASK, DLG4, IL16, and DLG1 in pathways such as potassium transport (in and out), antiarrhythmic pathways, dopamine-DARPP32 feedback onto cAMP pathways, and in the cholinergic synapse.

Long Name

Inward rectifier potassium channel 4

Alternate Names
