Background: Lyl1

Protein lyl-1 belongs to basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) family of proteins and contains a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor involved in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is reported expression of LYL1 was at higher levels in the majority cases of acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML) or myelodysplastic syndrome when compared to normal bone marrow. Thus LYL1 may play a role in early hematopoiesis and may be a potential oncogenic factor in AML. It is also reported LYL1 are aberrantly over-expressed in leukemia as a result of chromosomal translocations, or other genetic or epigenetic events.
