XIAP (X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis) is a member of the Inhibitor of Apoptosis (IAP) protein family. XIAP inhibits the activity of caspase-3, -7, and -9. Caspase inhibition is reversed when SMAC/Diablo or HtrA2/Omi directly binds the BIR domain of XIAP.
