Immunogen

Hybridoma clone has been derived from hybridization of Sp2/0 myeloma cells with spleen cells of Balb/c mice immunized with purified thyroxine (Sigma T-2501) conjugated with BSA.

Specificity

This reacts with conjugate T4-BSA and with free thyroxine in ELISA. Cross-reactivity with triiodothyronine is less than 1%. The reactivity of this with L-Thyroxine is 100 % and with D-Thyroxine 30 %.

Background: Thyroxine

Hormone produced by the thyroid glands to regulate metabolism by controlling the rate of oxidation in cells. Cases of hypothyroidism, where the gland is insufficiently active, can be treated by administration of thyroxine or a combination of thyroxine and triiodothyronine.
