Background: TRAIL R3/TNFRSF10C

Mouse DcTRAILR1 and DcTRAILR2 (decoy TRAIL receptors 1 and 2) proteins are receptors for TRAIL according to ligand-receptor binding assays (Schneider et al. 2001). However, overexpression does not cause NF-kB activation or apoptosis, as would be expected of a TRAIL receptor. These observations led researchers to refer to these receptors as decoys. It is thought that cells that express decoy TRAIL receptor decoys at high levels relative to actual TRAIL receptors may use decoys as protection against the cytotoxic action of TRAIL (reviewed in Bouralexis et al. 2005). Additional analysis of these two murine TRAIL decoy receptors should help facilitate the understanding of the complex biology underlying TRAIL ligand/receptor interactions. DcTRAILR1 is an amino acid protein of 176 amino acids (GenBank no: NP-077252.2). DcTRAILR2 is an amino acid protein of 198 amino acids (GenBank no: AAN87807.1).f
