Background: TZFP

TZFP is a novel human PLZF-related transcription factor which is predominantly expressed in testis. The human TZFP contains a conserved N-terminal BTB (bric-a-brac, tramtrack, broad complex) or POZ (poxvirus, zinc finger) domain and three C-terminal PLZF-like C2H2 zinc fingers. A computer search of the protein data base revealed that the zinc finger domain of TZFP is more closely related to the promyelocytic leukemia zinc finger (PLZF) protein, which was previously reported to be a DNA-binding transcriptional repressor. The biological function and the target genes regulated by TZFP remain largely unknown.
