Background: HBcAg

Hepatitis B Virus Core Antigen (HBcAg) is part of the infectious virion containing an inner "core particle" enclosing the viral genome. The icosahedral core particle contains 180 or 240 copies of the core protein. HBcAg is one of the three major clinical antigens of hepatitis B virus but disappears early in the course of infection. The hepatitis B virus core antigen (HBcAg) is a highly immunogenic subviral particle and functions as both a T-cell-dependent and a T-cell-independent antigen. Therefore, HBcAg may be a promising candidate target for therapeutic vaccine control of chronic HBV infection. This antibody stains predominantly the nuclei of liver cells. Occasionally variable staining may also be seen in the perinuclear cytoplasm. Hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg), the highly immunogenic 21kDa replicative form of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV), expressed by infected cells. Antibodies to HBcAg are produced by the host during and following an acute HBV infection and can be detected in chronic HBV carriers and patients recovered from HBV infection, usually persisting in the body for life.

FAQs for HBcAg Antibody (Hep2 (H69)) - BSA Free

Showing  1 - 22 FAQs Showing All
  • Q: Is it possible to help me double confirm if these products contain any BSA? Catalog numbers: NB400-105, NB100-306, and NB100-64454.

A: No, none of these antibodies have BSA in their formulation.

  • Q: We are interested in your HBc Ab (Cat# NB100-64454). Would you please provide the epitope of amino acid sequence of this Ab? The datasheet do not mention this information.

A: This monoclonal antibody was raised against the purified hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg, 1-183 a.a.). According to our database, HBcAg is the highly immunogenic 21 kDa replicative form of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV), expressed by infected Hep2 cells. Unfortunately, our lab has not mapped the epitope for this monoclonal antibody; therefore, there is not such information I can provide to you. Other available information about this clone is related to how it was produced and purified, for your reference: Spleen cells from immunized Balb/C mice were fused with cells of the SP2/0-Ag-14 myeloma cell line. Purified IgG was prepared by affinity chromatography and refined by S300 exclusion chromatography.
