WB: Approx. 28 kDa band observed in human kidney lysates (calculated MW of 26.1 kDa band according to NP_001196.1; NP_053581.1; NP_053582.1; NP_053583.1). An additional band of unknown identity was also consistently observed at 48 kDa. This band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide.

Background: BNIP1

This gene is a member of the BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kd-interacting protein (BNIP) family. It interacts with the E1B 19 kDa protein which is responsible for the protection of virally-induced cell death, as well as E1B 19 kDa-like sequences of BCL2, also an apoptotic protector. Alternative splicing of this gene results in four protein products with identical N- and C-termini.
