Background: BRIX
BRIX (Biogenesis of ribosomes in Xenopus; also BRIX domain-containing protein 2) is a 41 kDa (predicted) member of the BXDC2 family of proteins. It is found in nucleoli, and appears to participate in the formation of a complex associated with pre-rRNA and enzymes that generate 60S ribosomal subunits. Human BRIX is 353 amino acids (aa) in length. It is characterized by the presence of a BRIX domain that lies between aa 60‑249. There is one splice variant that shows a 17 aa substitution for aa 11‑27. Over aa 131‑353, human BRIX shares 93% aa identity with mouse BRIX.
