Integrin alpha V beta 6 (aVb6) is a heterodimeric adhesion protein that is exclusively expressed on subsets of epithelial cells, especially during development, after injury or inflammation, or on many carcinomas. Active aVb6 binds to the extracellular matrix proteins Fibronectin and Tenascin C as well as the TGF-beta latency-associated peptide (LAP). It cooperates with LTBP-1, Fibronectin, and PAR-1 to activate TGF-beta 1 or TGF-beta 3 from large latent complexes. aVb6 also plays a role in Treg development, tumor progression, and virus cellular entry.
