Application Notes
This BP1 antibody is useful for Immunohistochemistry on paraffin-embedded sections, Immunoprecipitation and Western blot, where a band is seen at ~36 kDa. IP has been done with 35S-labeled BP1 protein only. It is not known if this antibody will immunoprecipitate a cell extract. The observed molecular weight of the protein may vary from the listed predicted molecular weight due to post translational modifications, post translation cleavages, relative charges, and other experimental factors.Use in ChIP reported in scientific literature (PMID:35883028).

Background: BP1

BP1 (beta protein 1; also called distal-less homeobox gene 4 or DLX4) is a member of DLX family of homeobox genes and it controls many aspects of embryonic development including bone morphogenesis, skeletal patterning and cell differentiation. Originally discovered to be a repressor of beta-globin gene in erythroid cells, BP1 is normally expressed during early hematopoiesis with complete absence from most normal adult tissues and is widely re-expressed in leukemias, lung, breast, ovarian as well as prostate cancers. BP1 is an oncogene with a major role in breast cancer, and that its expression correlates with breast cancer progression and invasion. BP1 has been found to be detectable in 80% of infiltrating ductal carcinomas, but undetectable in matched normal controls, being the first DLX gene to be strongly implicated in breast cancer. Furthermore, expression of DLX4 correlates with estrogen receptor status and also cancer progression and invasion in breast cancer.
