Background: DSPG3

Human DSPG3 (also PG-Lb and epiphycan) is a 95‑100 kDa class III subfamily member of the SLRP family of molecules. It is synthesized as a 322 aa precursor that contains a 19 aa signal sequence and a 303 aa mature region. The mature molecule contains two intrachain disulfide bonds that flank six leucine-rich repeats lying between aa 135-301. There is a potential for both O- and N-linked glycosylation. DSPG3 is found principally in cartilage. Mature human DSPG3 is 85%, 96%, 95% and 84% aa identical to rat, dog, cow and mouse DSPG3, respectively.
